Born in Copenhagen in 1902, Arne Jacobsen worked as an apprentice bricklayer before beginning to study architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. In 1925, he participated in the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris, followed by a trip to Germany. During this training period he was influenced by Le Corbusier, Walter Gropius, and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.
